U.S. Deputy Attorney General James Cole issued a new memo which has medical marijuana dispensary owners worried. President Obama’s Justice Department has given a brand new memo that is bound to effect the 16 medical marijuana states.
Previously, oklahoma dispensary signaled that it would not employ the Justice Department assets to prosecute medical marijuana patients and caregivers. U.S. Deputy Attorney Dan Ogden given a memo that which the Obama administration did not wish to use useful resources to focus on marijuana dispensaries and patients in case they were obeying state law.
The U.S. Department of Justice has today reversed its position and indicated that it will prosecute medical marijuana patients and dispensaries. This stunning reversal has got the medical marijuana patients and dispensaries in an up roar. The minimum punishment under the federal system is a necessary five years in prison.
Under the previous Dan Ogden memo, marijuana dispensaries flourished. In the state of Colorado, dispensaries opened at an astonishing rate. Prior to the Ogden memo there have been only 12 marijuana dispensaries in the state of Colorado. After the Ogden memo, the quantity of dispensaries increase to over 800 through out the state of Colorado.
Medical marijuana patients and dispensary owner are feeling betrayed with president Obama’s new stance toward medical marijuana. On the campaign trail in 2008, Obama personally said that he would not make use of the Justice Department to target medical marijuana patients and the caregivers of theirs so long as they had been complying with state laws and regulations. The marijuana community is now under attack and in a state of panic.
Marijuana dispensary owners are now on code white alert. At any time, the federal government arrived come and turn them down. They’re designing with their clients to protest as well as raids that might occur from any federal agencies. These plans include things like having clients show up during any raids with picket sign to help you bring attention to this brand new policy. Patients are urged to contact their local media, television station, radio station and to video tape any kind of police encounter.
Will this do any kind of good? Only time is going to tell but its much better than simply keeping yourself under the radar and wishing things will change. The medical marijuana motion has must combat every step of the way and they’re not about to stop now. They only way in an attempt to gain traction may be to bring this brand new spot to the general population.
The dispensary owners are attempting to pressure the government out of the medicine cabinets of the patients of theirs. They face serious consequences to continue to serve their patients. Undoubtedly, there’ll be some dispensary users that will shut close and down shop. But there’ll be those that step up to the challenge and open and increase the current operation of theirs.
For today dispensary owners are cautioned and keep a low profile. That means turn off the neon put leaf’s and cancel the newspaper advertising. Good luck on to the brave marijuana dispensary users that like to remain open.
